Conor McGregor Urges One Championship To Sign The UFC's 125-Pound Division

With the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the process of apparently dismantling its flyweight division in the wake of longtime champion Demetrious Johnson being released to sign with One Championship, one perhaps unexpected voice has spoken up.

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ Conor McGregor send out a tweet on Thursday directed at ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong, urging the Singapore-based promotion to sign the rest of the UFC’s flyweights along with Johnson. McGregor wrote:

“You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri. You talk all of this martial art and respect talk, yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division its chance to earn income for their family. Have respect [Chatri Sityodtong]. Sign the division.”

With Johnson’s departure, the UFC’s flyweight division is emptying quickly, with numerous 125-pounders either announcing their release, or their impending move to bantamweight.
