Shuji Morikawa vs. Takaaki Oban

Round 1

The heavyweights pump their jabs and circle one another at the start of the bout, Oban landing slightly better. Oban begins to land heavier, hooking shots in combination, and now Morikawa changes levels to try a double-leg against the ropes. Oban stuffs the shot, stands Morikawa back up and drops him with a short left hook to the chin. Oban swarms with five or six heavy right hands on the ground until the referee intervenes.

The Official Result

Takaaki Oban def. Shuji Morikawa via TKO (Punches) R1 1:37

Jun Ando vs. Ryo Sakai

Round 1

Ando opens with a few leg kicks and then sprints away when Sakai tries to clinch up. Again, Sakai gets into range, and Ando turns his back to run. Sakai is trying to walk him down, but Ando keeps backpedaling out of range. Ando changes levels and the fighters get into a scramble which sends Ando through the ropes. He climbs back in and the pattern resumes, Sakai walking down the much lighter man very, very slowly. Sakai finally corners Ando and hits him with a grazing left hand. Ando decides to go down, takes a soccer kick to the body while in the fetal position, and the fight is stopped.

The Official Result

Ryo Sakai def. Jun Ando via TKO (Punch and Kick to the Body) R1 2:17

Yuki Yamamoto vs. Ramazan Esenbaev

Round 1

Yamamoto lands the first offense with a few kicks to Esenbaev’s legs, which are covered with pants to go with his wrestling shoes. Esenbaev finally lunges forward with some hard punches after 90 seconds and lands a reaching right hand. Yamamoto is backing up whenever Esenbaev presses forward, then coming back to land a leg kick or two. Esenbaev catches him near the corner and both lightweights land grazing shots in the exchange. Three minutes in, Esenbaev shoots a double-leg and gets stuffed, then fed a knee for his trouble. With one minute left in the round, it’s Yamamoto in the center, Esenbaev circling the outside. Neither man does much until the final 10 seconds, when Esenbaev pops Yamamoto with a pair of short left hooks and a right hand at the bell. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Esenbaev.

Round 2

Both men come out busier to start round two, Esenbaev still reaching with long punches while Yamamoto sticks to his leg kicks. A few sweeping lefts graze Yamamoto, who answers with another leg kicks and then goes upstairs with a blocked right high kick. Esenbaev keeps looping wide left hands that don’t land flush to the side of Yamamoto’s head. Esenbaev complains of a low kick and is told to fight on, so he shoots for a takedown in the corner until the ref calls for a restart. A lead left hook rocks the head of Yamamoto, who’s offering almost zero offense at this point. Esenbaev bombs into range in the final 20 seconds and catches Yamamoto with two or three heavy shots on the ropes. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Esenbaev.

Round 3

Esenbaev gets Yamamoto in a corner and drops him with a huge overhand right, but Yamamoto survives the follow-up assault, gets back to his feet and wobbles the Russian with a wild right hand. Yamamoto is still wounded, though, and he falls down again as he staggers across the ring. Esenbaev gives chase and follows him to the ground, where he sinks in a no-hooks rear-naked choke that forces Yamamoto to tap.

The Official Result

Ramazan Esenbaev def. Yuki Yamamoto via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R3 0:58

Travis Wiuff vs. Chris Barnett

Round 1

Wiuff moves straight inside to clinch up and trip Barnett to the ground in the center of the ring. “Diesel” gets side control and then keeps hold of Barnett’s waist as he rolls to his knees and scrambles up. Barnett runs to a corner post, so Wiuff knees his opponent’s thighs for a few seconds before dragging him back to the canvas. Wiuff drops right hands from Barnett’s half guard, first to the head and then the body. Referee Ryogaku Wada repositions the big men away from the ropes, and Wiuff spends a minute flattening Barnett before resuming his ground-and-pound. Barnett powers back to his feet with about 30 seconds on the clock, and Wiuff uses double underhooks to hold him on the ropes until the bell. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Wiuff.

Round 2

Wiuff rushes into the pocket and gets staggered with a right hand on the ear, and then shoots for a desperation takedown. Barnett sprawls on it and smashes away at the belly-down Bellator veteran’s head with right hands until referee Wada stops the fight.

The Official Result

Chris Barnett def. Travis Wiuff via TKO (Punches) R2 0:27

Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Shinichi Suzukawa

Round 1

Suzukawa stalks the smaller man around the ring, while Minowa stays on his back foot and covers up or sticks out a defensive jab when his opponent gets close. There’s little action through the middle of the round, as Minowa just keeps circling away and Suzukawa tries to punch his way into range. The referee calls for action with one minute to go in the round, but it does little to stir the fighters. Suzukawa, for his part, is trying to mount sporadic offense, but neither man really looks willing to engage. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-10.

Round 2

Suzukawa mixes it up with a few deflected high kicks at the start of round two, and Minowa responds with a single leg kick. The next low kick from Minowa lands on Suzukawa’s upper thigh, and “Minowaman” comes away limping. Minowa falls down in the corner, apparently having suffered a leg injury, and his corner throws in the towel as Suzukawa drops punches from the standing position.

The Official Result

Shinichi Suzukawa def. Ikuhisa Minowa via TKO (Corner Stoppage) R2 0:59

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Satoshi Ishii

Round 1

Filipovic pops Ishii with a jab and the judoka circles to his left, away from the southpaw’s power hand. Ishii wades into range with wide punches but quickly retreats when he can’t get hold of “Cro Cop.” Ishii converts a caught leg kick into a takedown and works from Filipovic’s closed guard, now about 90 seconds in. Cro Cop is tying up from underneath, limiting Ishii’s ground-and-pound, though Ishii breaks free to drop some hard left hands. Filipovic lands a big elbow from underneath and opens a cut right in the middle of Ishii’s hairline. Referee Ryogaku Wada has the ringside doctor check the cut, then restarts the fight in the center of the ring with Ishii in Cro Cop’s closed guard. The ref calls for action as Cro Cop continues to wrap up Ishii’s wrists. The bleeding from Ishii’s forehead is worsening, and now referee Wada calls time again. After both heavyweights are cleaned up, the fight is restarted on the feet with 60 seconds left in the round. Cro Cop presses forward and hits Ishii with a couple combinations before having a high kick blocked to end the round. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Ishii.

Round 2

Ishii begins to let his hands go early in the second frame, throwing hooks to Filipovic’s body and head before being forced to back up some more. The judoka paws at the blood dripping down the center of his face before referee Wada pauses the action yet again. The bleeding is stopped for now, and the fight resumes with 3:35 on the clock. The cut opens again almost immediately when Ishii overextends to whiff on a right-handed haymaker. Filipovic ducks another wide punch from Ishii, sticks a jab and snuffs out a takedown attempt. Halfway through the round, referee Wada directs Ishii to the corner for another inspection, and this time it’s over. The referee waves off the fight and Ishii storms out of the ring.

The Official Result

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic def. Satoshi Ishii via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) R2 2:37
