Cummins-‘Minotouro,’ Alves-Barberena Set for UFC Event in Brazil on May 14

A light heavyweight duel between Patrick Cummins and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and a welterweight tilt pitting Warlley Alves against Bryan Barberena have been booked for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s May 14 event in Brazil.

The Las Vegas-based promotion confirmed the matchups on Tuesday. Currently labeled UFC Fight Night, the card also features a middleweight clash between Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo Souza. The venue and city have yet to be announced, and the event is rumored to eventually become UFC 198.

Cummins enters the bout having lost two of his last three Octagon appearances. Most recently, he suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Glover Teixeira on Nov. 7. “Durkin” is 4-3 in the promotion overall, with his most recent win coming against Rafael Cavalcante at UFC 190.

Nogueira, meanwhile, will look to halt a two-fight skid when he faces Cummins. The 39-year-old Brazilian fought once apiece in 2014 and 2015, losing to Anthony Johnson via first-round knockout at UFC on Fox 12 and to Mauricio Rua via unanimous decision at UFC 190.

Alves is unbeaten in four promotional outings, including a first-round submission of Colby Covington in his most recent bout at UFC 194. Barberena, meanwhile, earned his second Octagon triumph when he submitted the highly-touted Sage Northcutt at UFC on Fox 18 last month.
