Cung Le Added to Strikeforce Card
Middleweight san shou star turned mixed martial artist Cung Le (Pictures) has been added to Strikeforce's
"Four Men Enter, One Man Survives" Nov. 16 event at the HP Pavilion
in San Jose, Calif.
Le, who is undefeated in four MMA bouts, will confront "The Ultimate Fighter 2" cast member Sam Morgan (Pictures) in a three-round middleweight fight.
The 34-year-old Vietnamese-American will enter the contest fresh off an impressive outing against Tony Fryklund (Pictures), which saw Le pepper his seasoned opponent with a wide array of flashy -- yet effective -- kicks and punches.
Morgan, 26, has had mixed success recently, going .500 in his last 10 trips to the cage, including a loss to Clevelander Forrest Petz (Pictures) at UFC Fight Night 6 in August of 2006. Morgan's career record stands at 18-8-0.
"I just can't wait to get back in the cage," said Le in a press release issued Sunday. "I think the fight with Tony definitely proved that I have the ability to be a force in mixed martial arts."
"Being able to fight on your feet is just as important as being able to fight on the ground in this sport because the fight starts standing up," he continued. "My ground game is still evolving but, as far as stand up goes, I feel I'm one of the strongest fighters out there."
Also on the card, middleweights Trevor Prangley (Pictures), Yuki Sasaki (Pictures), Jorge Santiago (Pictures) and Falaniko Vitale (Pictures) will compete in the first one-night tournament sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission. Bracket matchups are expected in the coming days.
Joining the 185-pounders, heavyweights Paul Buentello (Pictures) and Alistair Overeem (Pictures) will battle for the vacant Strikeforce title, while 205-pound champion Bobby Southworth (Pictures) and Luke Stewart (Pictures) are slated to face yet-to-be-announced foes.
Kickboxing champion Brian Schwartz will make his MMA debut against Lemont Davis at a contracted weight of 175-pounds.
