Cristiane Justino will likely have a spot on the upcoming UFC 214 card, but now it’s a matter of finding an opponent for the Brazilian knockout artist.
“Cris Cyborg is definitely fighting on the July 29 card in Anaheim,” White said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
As for an opponent? “We’re still working on it,” White said.
In recent weeks, there have been a number of rumored opponents for Justino. Initially, she was expected to face Germaine de Randamie for the women’s featherweight crown, but the Dutchwoman has refused to fight “Cyborg,” whom she has called a “proven cheater.” Later, Justino and Invicta FC featherweight queen Megan Anderson discussed a potential bout via Twitter, but Anderson has since been booked to defend her title at Invicta FC 24 in July.
Another opponent who has been rumored to face Justino at UFC 214 is former bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano. However, it appears that Zingano will not be physically cleared to compete by July 29.
“Cat Zingano wants to [fight Cyborg]. And we were looking at Cat Zingano, but Cat’s not ready physically,” White said. “She’s been out for a while because she had some physical issues she was dealing with; she’s not gonna be ready.”
Justino last appeared at UFC Fight Night 95 on Sept. 24, when she scored a second-round technical knockout victory over Lina Lansberg in a 140-pound catch-weight bout. The 31-year-old Curitiba native vacated the Invicta FC featherweight championship earlier this year in order to fully focus on her UFC career.
