UFC president Dana White told ESPN on Tuesday that the promotion has targeted May 9 for its next event. That date was originally scheduled for UFC 250 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but the card will be moved to an undisclosed location.
White has already built a full lineup for the event. Among the
targeted fights are a trio of title bouts: Tony
Ferguson vs. Justin
Gaethje for the interim lightweight crown; Amanda
Nunes vs. Felicia
Spencer for the women’s featherweight belt and Henry
Cejudo vs. Dominick
Cruz for the bantamweight championship. Of the 12 proposed
bouts for the card, some have been agreed to, while others are in
the process of being finalized, according to the ESPN report.
The news comes less than a week after UFC 249 was canceled. White had hoped to move the April 18 event to the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, Calif., but he was ultimately asked to “stand down” by high-ranking Disney and ESPN executives. Afterward, White insisted that the UFC would be the first sports organization to resume its schedule.
