Dana White: Still the Plan for GSP to Fight Tyron Woodley-Demian Maia Winner

There doesn’t seem to be a consensus regarding the opponent for Georges St. Pierre’s first UFC appearance since November 2013.

It’s been approximately four months since the announcement that Pierre would make his Octagon return in a middleweight championship bout against Michael Bisping, but when neither man could meet the UFC’s timetable, that matchup seemed to fall by the wayside.

However, both St. Pierre and Bisping have continued to express interest in the fight, most recently when “Rush” called into the middleweight champion’s podcast to reveal that he had recently texted UFC President Dana White to get the bout rebooked.

Regardless of that exchange, White claims that the most likely outcome is that St. Pierre will challenge the winner of the welterweight title tilt between Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia at UFC 214 on Saturday.

“That is the plan as of right now,” White said during a press conference on Wednesday. “Whoever wins this fight fights GSP. But GSP’s people are here today to speak to me, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Woodley, who angled for a St. Pierre fight after capturing 170-pound gold last year, seemed skeptical that the bout would come to fruition.

“They’re gonna ask to fight Bisping because Georges don’t want to fight me,” he said.

White, as he has done on multiple occasions, remained adamant that Bisping-St. Pierre matchup is a thing of the past.

“The Bisping ship has sailed. It’s gone,” White said. “If you win on Saturday, it’s gonna be you, pal.”
