Dana White: UFC Talking to Floyd Mayweather About Potential Deal

Floyd Mayweather apparently wasn’t just all talk when he recently mentioned that the UFC had offered him a multi-fight contract.

According to UFC President Dana White, the Las Vegas-based promotion is having legitimate discussion with the retired boxer about competing in the Octagon. Mayweather improved his boxing mark to 50-0 with a 10th round technical knockout of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor on Aug. 26.

"We're talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal," White told ESPN.com. "It's real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren't real? He usually tips his hand when he's in the media, and then that s—t ends up happening.

"We're interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f---ing happened. Anything is possible.”

Last week, Mayweather claimed that he had an offer that could make him $1 billion to fight in the UFC. White did not reveal any specifics when it came to contract negotiations.

“They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back,” said Mayweather. “I can come right back. If I want to, I can come right back to the UFC. I can go fight in the Octagon – I can go and do a three or four-fight deal in the octagon and make $1 billion.”

During a press conference in London in July, Mayweather told McGregor that he would “whip your ass in the Octagon.” After their August bout, McGregor said that Mayweather promised him a rematch in the cage. However, it is unlikely that such a matchup would be sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission if Mayweather were to sign with the UFC.

After working with Mayweather and his team on a deal to fight McGregor in the boxing ring, White came away impressed with how smoothly things went.

"There was no way I thought that fight was going to happen, but when you sit down with a smart guy like Al Haymon, a very intelligent guy, anything is possible," White told ESPN. "And Floyd, as much as he does the money thing and this and that, Floyd was actually very easy to work with. I was impressed.”
