Daniel Cormier: ‘The Only Way Miocic Can Win is to Knock Me Out’

Cormier has been critical of Miocic’s opponents as the heavyweight champion while pointing out the flaws in the Ohio native’s last fight against Francis Ngannou. Miocic won the bout by unanimous decision, dominating his opponent over the five rounds, but couldn’t find a finish against Ngannou. Cormier stated if he were in the same position he would have gotten “four or five submissions and found a way to get some TKO stoppages.”
Cormier believes the only way Miocic might beat him on Saturday
night is if he knocks him out, and that the longer the fight goes
on, the more it favors Cormier.
“The only way he can win is to knock me out,” Cormier said during the open workout media scrum. “There’s no other way he beats me. If he didn’t finish Ngannou on the ground, he is not finishing me on the ground. And if we fight for 25 minutes, there is no way he gets his hand raised.”
Out of Miocic’s 18 professional wins, 13 are knockouts or TKOs, and he will likely be looking to keep the fight standing against highly-decorated wrestler Cormier.
Miocic was asked about DC’s comments at his own media scrum and simply brushed them off.
“I’ve knocked people out and I won,” Miocic told reporters. “Guess what? You’re getting knocked out, too. And I’m gonna keep winning.
“I’m still the champ, I like being called champ, and nothing’s gonna change that,” Miocic added. “I love being the champ, and I worked my ass off being here, and I’m not gonna give it up. I sacrificed way too much, my coaches, they sacrificed way too much. I ain’t giving it up.”
