Darren Till's Fight Against Tyron Woodley 'Probably' His Last at Welterweight

Darren Till will look to get his title aspirations back on track after losing against Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champion Tyron Woodley last month at UFC 228, but appears his future endeavors will be in the heavier middleweight division.

Till has continually battled to make the 170-pound limit throughout his career and has missed weight on two occasions, leading to speculation that his days at welterweight were numbered. The UFC even went to the rare measure of having an alternate challenger for Woodley on deck at UFC 228 in the form of welterweight contender Kamaru Usman.

The 25-year-old Till defied his critics by weighing in at 169 pounds for his title fight against Woodley. However, it seems the sacrifice to get him down to that weight has become enough of a struggle as he’s announced in a recent blog on PaddyPower.com that his fight against Woodley would ‘probably’ be his last at 170 pounds.

“I’m a big dude for welterweight to be honest, so that’s probably going to be my last fight at that weight,” wrote Till. “Welterweight isn’t fully gone for me, but I’m going to be happy going up to middleweight now and I’ll be strong at that weight not having to cut as much weight.

“It’s not that I can’t make the weight. I’m just a big lad so I just have to be on such a strict, regimented diet and being honest, I don’t like doing it. People might say ‘he’s not disciplined enough’, but because I have to cut so much weight I can only eat the bare minimum of food and that’s not how I want to be training.”
