A matchup of talented wrestlers has will go down at Bellator 143 when Darrion Caldwell locks horns with Shawn Bunch.
A source close to the bout confirmed the bantamweight tilt to Sherdog.com on Wednesday. Additionally, a heavyweight clash pitting Chase Gormley against Dan Charles is also set for the event. Both bouts will be on the evening’s preliminary draw. Bellator 143 takes place at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, on Sept. 25 and is headlined by a bantamweight tussle between Joe Warren and L.C. Davis.
A former NCAA national champion wrestler at North Carolina State University, Caldwell is 7-0 in mixed martial arts, including a 4-0 mark with Bellator MMA. “The Wolf” earned the biggest victory of his career to date in his most recent appearance, as he outpointed Rafael Silva at Bellator 137 on May 15.
Bunch, meanwhile, was a two-time All-American at Edinboro University and was also twice an Olympic alternate. Bunch has won four of his five professional bouts, all of which occurred under the Bellator banner. The American Kickboxing Academy last appeared at Bellator 137, when he outpointed Rolando Perez.
Gormley will make his Bellator debut on a five-fight winning streak. Most recently, he took a five-round verdict over Jon Madsen on March 20 to capture the Titan FC heavyweight crown. Charles stepped in for the injured James Thompson at Bellator 138 but fell to Bobby Lashley via second-round TKO, his second loss in four promotional appearances.
