Dodson-Uyenoyama Flyweight Bout Added to UFC on Fox 3
The
UFCâs flyweight division now has two new faces.
Promotion officials recently announced that âUltimate Fighterâ Season 14 winner John Dodson (Pictured) and veteran Darren Uyenoyama will clash in a 125-pound affair at UFC on Fox 3.
Also featuring a lightweight showdown between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz, the event takes place May 5 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The eveningâs main draw will air live on Fox, and the showâs preliminary bouts are expected to be broadcast on Fuel TV.
Known for his blinding speed, Dodson rides a three fight winning streak into his flyweight return. âThe Magicianâ steamrolled T.J. Dillashaw in his last in-cage appearance, flattening the Team Alpha Male fighter via technical knockout in just 1:54. The 27-year-old Jacksonâs MMA representative holds seven of his 12 career victories by either knockout or submission and has never been finished in his seven years as a pro.
A veteran of Strikeforce, Dream, Shooto and Deep competition, Uyenoyama made a successful bantamweight UFC debut in November, out-grappling Norifumi Yamamoto en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC on Fox 1. The 32-year-old Californian has only been finished once since his 2002 pro debut and has submitted three of his seven career victims to-date.
Both men are dropping down from bantamweight for the bout, which is the first 125-pound contest announced outside of the UFCâs four-man title tournament.
