Dominick Cruz-Urijah Faber 3 to Serve as UFC 199 Co-Headliner on June 4

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will renew their rivalry in the UFC 199 co-main event on June 4.

UFC President Dana White announced the bantamweight championship matchup during the promotion’s “Unstoppable” press conference in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon. UFC 199 is expected to be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman. The event will take place at The Forum in Los Angeles, marking the UFC’s first show in LA not to be held at Staples Center..

Cruz and Faber have squared off twice before. Faber submitted Cruz with a first-round guillotine choke in their initial meeting at WEC 26 in 2007, while “The Dominator” outpointed the Team Alpha Male leader in a five-round 135-pound title clash some four years later at UFC 132.

Cruz has spent much of the past several years sidelined by injuries that ultimately forced him to vacate the bantamweight crown. He reclaimed that title on Jan. 17, taking a split-decision triumph over T.J. Dillashaw at UFC Fight Night in Boston.

Faber, meanwhile, has won three of his last four bouts, including a three-round verdict over Frankie Saenz in his most recent outing at UFC 194. “The California Kid” is winless in his last six title fights.
