Two top lightweights will compete in the UFC on Fox Sports 1 No. 2 co-headliner on Aug. 28, when Donald Cerrone takes on Rafael dos Anjos during the UFC’s second event on the Fox-owned sports network.
Cerrone, 30, has won seven of nine fights since joining the UFC in 2011, posting back-to-back triumphs over Jeremy Stephens and Melvin Guillard last year before suffering a first-round knockout to Anthony Pettis to kick off 2013. “Cowboy” responded to the setback with a victory in his most recent outing, however, as the Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts product cruised to a unanimous decision over Strikeforce import K.J. Noons just under two weeks ago at UFC 160.
Dos Anjos, 28, rides a four-fight winning streak into his clash with Cerrone, most recently edging a game Evan Dunham in a hard-fought bout last month at UFC on FX 8. The Brazilian posted three straight victories last year following a split decision defeat to Gleison Tibau to close out 2011, notching wins over Kamal Shalorus, Anthony Njokuani and Mark Bocek to kick off his current hot streak.
