Dos Santos’ $200K Leads UFC 131 Paydays

By Mike Whitman Jul 8, 2011
Heavyweight contender Junior dos Santos (Pictured; file photo) walked away from Rogers Arena as the big winner on June 11, raking in a $200,000 payday for his one-sided unanimous decision victory over Shane Carwin ($40,000) in the UFC 131 main event. The Vancouver Athletic Commission emailed the payout information to Sherdog.com on Friday.

Co-headlined by the featherweight debut of former two-time lightweight title challenger Kenny Florian ($130,000), the event marked the UFC’s second visit to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Florian was successful in his first bout at 145 pounds, grinding down opponent Diego Nunes ($12,000) en route to a three-round unanimous nod.

Also notable were the paydays received by Dave Herman and John Olav Einemo, who walked away with totals of $106,000 and $85,000, respectively, receiving $70,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses after their heavyweight donnybrook. Sam Stout and Chris Weidman both took home substantial figures, as Stout earned a total of $108,000 for his “Knockout of the Night” over Yves Edwards and Weidman was awarded a total of $90,000 after finishing Jesse Bongfeldt with the “Submission of the Night.”
