Dustin Poirier’s featherweight run is a thing of the past, with the news that “The Diamond” will return to lightweight and face Carlos Diego Ferreira at a newly announced UFC Fight Night event on April 4.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials revealed the event and bout on Friday. The card does not yet have a main event and will take place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.
Poirier, 25, was last in action against Conor McGregor at UFC 178, losing via first-round technical knockout. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak and forced Poirier to re-evaluate the cut down to 145 pounds. Overall, the World Extreme Cagefighting veteran holds an 8-3 mark inside the Octagon.
Ferreira, 29, is not only coming off a loss, but also the first defeat of his career. The Legacy Fighting Championship standout impressed in his first two fights under the UFC banner, finishing both Colton Smith and Ramsey Nijem. Most recently, the Brazilian dropped a unanimous decision to Beneil Dariush at UFC 179.
