Eddie Alvarez Not Accepting Fights Until Future with UFC is Resolved

Alvarez is not happy with current negotiations surrounding his
contract with the UFC.
Alvarez has one fight remaining on his current UFC deal and his agent has been negotiating a new agreement. It seems Alvarez had high hopes of a much improved contract, but apparently the terms he was offered were not even close to what he was banking on.
Alvarez last fought inside the Octagon in December 2017 when he
came up against Justin
Gaethje. Alvarez ran through “The Highlight,” knocking him out
with a brutal knee and handing him his first career loss.
Ariel Helwani revealed on Twitter that he had talked with Alvarez regarding his contract situation.
Alvarez is currently ranked third in the ultra-competitive UFC lightweight division, just behind Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor, and of course the newly crowned champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Alvarez recently talked about how he has the style to dethrone the undefeated Dagestani, although that fight looks at long odds if he cannot secure his UFC future beyond his next bout.
Alvarez won the UFC lightweight belt back in July 2016 when he brutally finished the Rafael dos Anjos in the first round to capture the 155-pound title. In his first title defense at UFC 205, he was exposed on the feet by McGregor, losing via second-round TKO.
“The Underground King” has also been linked to a potential bout with Nate Diaz, who has taken a hiatus from the sport after also losing to McGregor. This isn’t the first time a bout between Alvarez and Diaz has been in the works, as the two were rumored to be in talks for a bout at UFC 211, although Diaz reportedly turned the fight down.

Asked him if he’s been approached about fighting Nate Diaz on 8/4. He said he has not been offered Diaz for 227. He has long wanted to fight Diaz but reiterated he wants a new deal first. “UFC needs to stop playing games,” he added. “They know what I mean.”
