Sara McMann will make her Strikeforce debut against former bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche on Nov. 3 in Oklahoma City.
Sherdog.com confirmed the pairing with a source close to the bout on Friday following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. Headlined by a heavyweight confrontation between recent grand prix winner Daniel Cormier and ex- champion Frank Mir, the Nov. 3 event takes place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The main draw airs on Showtime, while Showtime Extreme carries the undercard.
McMann, 31, made her pro MMA debut last year and has yet to lose a fight, posting six victories in 14 months. A 2004 Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, McMann has finished half of her career victims by either technical knockout or submission and owns notable victories over Tonya Evinger, Hitomi Akano and Shayna Baszler, whom McMann recently outpointed on July 28 at Invicta FC 2.
Carmouche, 28, has suffered just two career setbacks since winning her first fight in 2010. Following five straight victories, “Girl-Rilla” challenged Marloes Coenen for Strikeforce’s bantamweight strap last year and submitted to a fourth-round triangle choke after acquitting herself well against the champion. A loss to ex-titlist Sarah Kaufman would follow, but Carmouche responded with a pair of victories in the Invicta cage, topping Ashleigh Curry and Kaitlin Young to kick off 2012.
