Another pivotal heavyweight clash has been added to Sept. 10’s UFC 203 bill in Cleveland.
Headlined by new UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic’s first defense against Alistair Overeem, the card will also feature Fabricio Werdum versus Ben Rothwell. The promotion revealed the pairing Sunday night during FS1's UFC Fight Night “Almeida vs. Garbrandt” broadcast.
Werdum (20-6) lost the heavyweight title to Miocic on May 14 at UFC 198 via first-round knockout. The 38-year-old has never dropped back-to-back fights in a career that has spanned 14 years.
Rothwell, 36-10, will also hope to bounce back from defeat as he was handedly outpointed by Junior dos Santos on April 10 at UFC Fight Night “Rothwell vs. Dos Santos.” The loss put an end to a four-fight winning streak that saw the Wisconsin native become the first man to submit Josh Barnett and a knockout of the aforementioned Overeem.
