A featherweight showdown between Junior Assuncao and Eddie Yagin is in the works for UFC 135 “Jones vs. Rampage.”

Sherdog.com confirmed the matchup Wednesday with a source close to the event following an initial report from MMAWeekly.com.

Headlined by a light heavyweight title tilt between Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, UFC 135 goes down Sept. 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Also featuring a welterweight scrap pitting former champion Matt Hughes against Diego Sanchez, the event will air live on pay-per-view.

A three-time UFC veteran, Assuncao originally competed for the world’s largest promotion as a lightweight from 2006 to 2007, posting a record of 1-2 in the Octagon. Since his exit from the UFC, Assuncao has rattled off seven wins in eight fights, most recently submitting Wesley Murch in Brazil on March 31.

An 11-year pro, Yagin (Pictured) has won seven of his last eight contests. The 32-year-old “Filipino Phenom” recently captured the Tachi Palace Fights featherweight belt by upsetting former Bellator titleholder Joe Soto at TPF 10 on Aug. 5. A native Hawaiian, the Alliance MMA representative holds 10 of his 15 career wins by knockout or submission.
