Darren Elkins will lock horns with Dennis Bermudez in a featherweight pairing at UFC on Fox 25 on July 22.
Elkins recently announced the bout via Instagram. MMAFighting.com was the first to report the matchup last week. UFC on Fox 25 takes place at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, N.Y., and is headlined by a middleweight duel pitting Chris Weidman against Kelvin Gastelum.
One of the more underrated talents in the division, Elkins enters the bout with Bermudez on a four-fight winning streak. “The Damage” last appeared at UFC 209, where he authored a stirring come-from-behind knockout victory over Mirsad Bektic. The 33-year-old Indiana native is 12-4 during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion.
Bermudez came up short in his first outing of 2017, losing to Chan Sung Jung via first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night 104 on Feb. 4. “The Menace” is 9-4 in the Octagon, a record that includes a seven-fight winning streak from May 2012 to July 2014. He owns notable triumphs over Max Holloway, Clay Guida and Tatsuya Kawajiri.
