Felipe Arantes will fight Andre Fili in a featherweight contest at UFC 179 on Oct. 25.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the pairing on Wednesday. The pay-per-view event takes place at the Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro and features a featherweight title rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. The card is also expected to include a key light heavyweight showdown pitting Phil Davis against Glover Teixeira.
Arantes has been fighting under the Zuffa banner since 2011, racking up a record of 3-2-1. “Sertanejo’s” last appearance inside the Octagon took place at UFC Fight Night “Mousasi vs. Munoz” in February, when he captured a unanimous decision win against Maximo Blanco. Arantes also competed at UFC 142, the card that featured the first encounter between Aldo and Mendes.
Fili was supposed to face Sean Soriano at UFC Fight Night “Souza vs. Mousasi 2” but was forced to withdraw due to injury. A 23-year-old Team Alpha Male prospect, “Touchy” Fili enjoyed success in his first Octagon venture, as he scored a second-round TKO against Jeremy Larsen at UFC 166. He encountered more difficulty in his sophomore effort, submitting to a Max Holloway guillotine choke at UFC 172 this past April.
