Lorenzo Fertitta has left the casino business to work full time
with the UFC, Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday.
As president of Station Casinos, Fertitta was one of the highest paid casino executives in Las Vegas. He is also a primary owner in the UFC, however, and told Yahoo that the growth of the MMA organization demanded more significant involvement.
UFC President Dana White said Fertitta's announcement might make Wednesday "the biggest day in UFC history."
The Yahoo report focused on Fertitta's role in the UFC's international expansion, which includes plans for Germany, Italy, France, Spain, China, South Korea, Japan, India and the Philippines.
"The UFC is going to have a global footprint in the not-too-distant future," Fertitta told Yahoo. "We're already working on furthering our position in Brazil. This is getting so big that it demanded I spend more time with it."
