LOS ANGELES --
Spencer Fisher may have still been cutting weight for his
UFC 104 bout with
Joe Stevenson, but the explosive lightweight’s comments to media at Wednesday’s open workout left little doubt he is more than ready to strap on the gloves right now.
Fisher (23-4) was none too enamored with comments he said he had just read that were attributed to Stevenson. The Iowan claimed Stevenson had said he would beat him up and finish him no matter where the fight takes place and that he harbored animosity toward Fisher.
“I just saw what he wrote about me and I am going to punch him in the face for that, plain and simple,” said the 33-year-old, who was as calm as he could be. “He’s not going to stand with me. He’s going to try to pitter-pat with karate punches and then dive for my shoelaces.”
As for the
Ill Will developing between the opponents, Fisher posited the possibility that Stevenson (30-10) was just trying to get in his head. He said it did not matter either way.
“I never had any problem with him, but now he adds a little fuel to the fire. Maybe it’s just to get in my head, to get me aggressive toward him,” said Fisher, who has rattled off three straight wins. “Whatever the case is, I am going to go out there and hit him in the face every time I get a chance.”
