Undercard Results:

In a junior middleweight tilt between two veterans trying to stay afloat in the world title picture, it was Vanes Martirosyan who prevailed over Ishe Smith via majority decision. Martirosyan (36-2-1, 21 KOs) scored knockdowns in the third and eighth rounds and went on to win via tallies of 95-95 and 97-91 (twice). The fight was an entertaining affair, but Smith (27-8, 12 KOs) was a step behind throughout.

Unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Chris Pearson took his time with Jank Trotter (9-2-1, 9 Kos) before stopping him in the seventh. Pearson (13-0, 10 KOs) dropped him in what would be the final round and, with time running out, tore into him until Robert Byrd pulled him off with a second left on the clock.

Lightweight prospect Gevonta Davis improved to 12-0 by scoring his 11th knockout when he obliterated Recky Dulay (8-2, 5 KOs) in the first. Davis scored two knockdowns and got the stoppage at 1:34 of the frame.

Ronald Gavril was too good and far too accurate for Scott Sigmon (25-8-1, 14 KOs) to handle, pummeling him for several rounds before finally stopping him after eight rounds had passed. Referee Jay Nady waived it off before the ninth could start, allowing the super middleweight to improve to 14-1 with 10 KOs.

Ashley Theopane dominated fellow junior welterweight Steve Upsher over 10 rounds en route to a lopsided unanimous decision. The official tallies favored the Englishman 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93, allowing him to bolster his pro ledger to 39-6-1 with 11 KOs. For his efforts, Upsher fell to 25-5-1 with 6 KOs.

Trakwon Pettis was sensational in his pro debut, stopping Davante Seay (0-1-1) in the first. A lethal body assault floored Seay twice before a barrage to the head and body felled him for a third time. At that point, Referee Tony Weeks had seen enough and halted the mugging at the 2:24 mark.

Oquendo Edges Gonzalez Via Majority Decision: The first televised pay-per-view fight began with fireworks from both combatants and it had the makings of a classic. Mexican veteran and former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez floored Puerto Rican rival Jonathan Oquendo with a sizzling left uppercut midway through the opening round. Oquendo beat the count and returned the favor in the second when he felled Gonzalez with a perfect left/right to the head.

With both men down, virtually everybody inside the MGM Grand figured it would be an all-out war. But when Oquendo (26-4, 16 KOs) failed to put his foe away, he began to box more and create problems for Gonzalez (58-10, 49 KOs). Jhonny constantly tried to make it a brawl so his vaunted power could rule the duel, but Oquendo was a little bit too slick and countered his way to a majority decision win. Oquendo won via tallies of 94-94, 98-90 and 95-93.
