Flyweight Champ Demetrious Johnson Gets Wish, Poses with 10 UFC Belts

It appears as though Demetrious Johnson finally got a belt for each UFC flyweight title defense – at least temporarily.

Prior to facing Wilson Reis at UFC on Fox 24, “Mighty Mouse” wondered aloud why he hadn’t received a championship strap for each of his previous nine title defenses.

“I’m getting pissed off about that,” Johnson said at UFC on Fox 24 open workouts. “I saw Daniel Cormier get three damn belts, so Dana White, WME-IMG, whoever writes the checks, give me eight damn belts please, and then I [already have one, so] nine if I win this one. I’ll take it home. I’m going to start collecting these belts. Michael Bisping has two belts and I’m just a nice guy, just a company man, I come here and fight and then they take the belt away from me and I'm like, ‘alright, peace. Call me when you want me to come fight again.’ And thats it. But now I'm seeing these guys with three belts, and I'm like, I only got one belt and have to share it with two of my kids.”

After Johnson defeated Reis via third-round armbar to tie Anderson Silva for most consecutive title defenses in promotion history, UFC President Dana White vowed to get the pound-for-pound standout a belt for each of those victories. However, White claimed the promotion doesn’t normally hand out a belt for each successful title defense.

“That’s not the way it works,” White told UFC.com. “You don’t get a new belt every time. You defend your belt, you keep your belt. If we were handing out belts with every single defense, that would be a lot of money. And to be honest with you, we don’t even have eight more belts. They bring ‘em, we order them as we do events. There’s going to be a backup on his belts, but he’s going to get them.”

That said, Johnson at the very least got to pose with an impressive collection of hardware on Wednesday, and he posted a photo of himself on Twitter with 10 UFC championship belts in tow. Johnson’s next title defense, which is currently unscheduled, would put him in sole possession of most title defenses in UFC history.
