Flyweights Joseph Benavidez, Zach Makovsky Booked for UFC 196 in Las Vegas

Joseph Benavidez will face Zach Makovsky in a key flyweight duel at UFC 196.

The bout was initially reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. UFC 196 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Feb. 6 and is headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez.

A two-time flyweight title challenger, Benavidez enters the contest on a four-fight winning streak. Most recently, the Team Alpha Male standout took a unanimous decision triumph over Ali Bagautinov at UFC 192. Benavidez is 10-2 UFC competition overall, with his only two defeats coming at the hands of reigning champion Demetrious Johnson.

Makovsky, meanwhile, has lost two of his last three Octagon appearances, including a three-round verdict against John Dodson in his last outing at UFC 187. “Fun Size” owns victories against Tim Elliott, Josh Sampo and Scott Jorgensen in the Las Vegas-based promotion.
