Former OSU Wrestlers Win in Tulsa
Sunday, March 16, 2008
Oklahoma State All-American wrestlers Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks and Shane Roller dominated their bouts Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.'s Expo Square Pavilion.

Rosholt was tested in his middleweight debut, but the Oklahoman's chin held up well enough for him to dominate Chad Jay on the canvas.

The deluge of heavy punches and elbows took its toll, and by the end of the second Jay's left eye was pounded shut.

Jay again connected with a crisp combination to the chin in the third period of Xtreme Fighting League's main event, which was televised live on HDNet. However, the former Cowboy wrestler withstood Jay's charge and resumed his effective ground-based attack.

Having easily passed to mount, Rosholt delivered elbows and punches before the referee stopped the contest at 2:37 of round three.

Levi Avera defended his XFL welterweight title for a second time. A persistent triangle choke was enough to make Brandon Newsome tapout at 1:57 of round one.

Newsome did what he could to defend, yet Avera maintained head control and eventually rotated his hips to create sufficient pressure for the tap.

Johny Hendricks scored the first submission victory of his young career. Moving beautifully on the canvas, the welterweight trapped one of Richard Bamgle's arms before transitioning into a smooth D'Arce choke at 1:45 of round one.

Other results:
Adrian Sanchez def. Chris Bowles (Pictures) TKO (doctor stoppage - cut) 0:58 R2
Daniel Roberts def. Akira Kinjo unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Shane Roller def. Yoshihiro Kitaoka TKO (strikes) 1:50 R1
Shane Waits def. Kazuya Nishiyama unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) 3R
