McDonald (19-4) has notoriously suffered many a broken hand throughout his career, having had to sit out most of 2014 and 2015 due to injuries, mostly to his hands and wrists. “Mayday” packed one hell of a punch for a bantamweight, winning 10 of his 19 victories by knockout, many of which were quick and brutal.
During his UFC run from 2011 to 2016, “Mayday” fought for the interim bantamweight title against then-champion Renan Barao. McDonald had success in the first round, hurting the champion with punches several times before ultimately succumbing to a second-round submission.
The 27-year-old parted ways with the UFC after headlining his first card for the promotion against John Lineker in July 2016. McDonald lost that fight by first-round knockout, and claimed he signed with Bellator immediately after due to the promotion “dealing with him very dishonestly and disrespectfully.”
McDonald went 2-0 in Bellator.
