The card for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first-ever trip to South Dakota is beginning to take shape.
The promotion confirmed the following matchups Thursday following an initial report from the Argus Leader: Louis Smolka vs. Ben Nguyen at flyweight; Kyle Noke vs. Keita Nakamura at welterweight; Tim Boetsch vs. Josh Samman at middleweight and Scott Holtzman vs. Cody Pfister at lightweight.
UFC Fight Night takes place at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. on July 13. The evening’s main card will air on Fox Sports 1. A headliner for the event has not yet been announced.
Smolka is currently on a three-fight winning streak, including a second-round submission of Patrick Holohan in the headliner at UFC Fight Night Dublin this past October. Nguyen has won eight straight contests, including first round finishes of Ryan Benoit and Alptekin Ozkilic in the Octagon.
A 31-fight veteran, Noke had a two-fight winning streak halted at UFC 195, as he dropped a split decision against Alex Morono on Jan. 2. Nakamura, who has 40 professional bouts on his resume, dropped a unanimous verdict to Tom Breese in his most recent outing at UFC Fight Night in London on Feb. 27.
Boetsch is looking to end a three-bout skid after having been stopped by Ed Herman, Dan Henderson and Thales Leites in succession. Samman saw a four-fight winning streak come to an end at UFC on Fox 17, where he was submitted in the third round by Tamdan McCrory.
Known as “Hot Sauce,” Holtzman has split his first two promotional appearances, falling to Drew Dober while besting Anthony Christodoulou. Pfister is 1-2 in the Octagon, including a second-round submission loss to Sage Northcutt this past December.
