Fresh Off UFC 226 Win, Anthony Pettis Issues Callouts to Al Iaquinta, Nate Diaz
Anthony
Pettis looked a little bit rejuvenated at UFC 226, displaying
the varied offensive arsenal that once made him a champion in a
victory over Michael
Chiesa on June 9.
The Roufusport stalwart set the stage for his victory by rocking Chiesa with a hard right hand before eventually transitioning to a triangle armbar to earn the tapout 52 seconds into the second round. “Showtime” has won two of his last three at 155 pounds following a brief stint at featherweight.
Following that mini-resurgence, the former UFC and WEC lightweight
champion has set his sights on a couple of high-profile matchups
for his next Octagon appearance, calling out both Al Iaquinta
and Nate
Diaz on Twitter.
Iaquinta last appeared at UFC 222, where he had a five-bout winning streak snapped in a title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. He was scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 135 against Justin Gaethje in August but withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons.
Diaz, meanwhile, still hasn’t competed since dropping a majority decision in a rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August 2016. He was briefly linked to a matchup with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 227 before both parties shot down that idea.
