Georges St. Pierre has suffered a knee injury and will be unable to defend his UFC welterweight title against Carlos Condit at UFC 137.

“It’s GSP’s knee,” UFC President Dana White wrote Tuesday on Twitter. “We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It’s looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still [too] early to tell, though.”

With GSP-Condit off, the Oct. 29 card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas will now be headlined by a three-round welterweight tilt between B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz.

The event was originally scheduled to be headlined by a St. Pierre-Diaz title bout. However, Condit was tapped as a new challenger by White after Diaz missed a pair of promotional press conferences.

Widely ranked as one of the MMA world’s pound-for-pound best, St. Pierre has been dominant as UFC welterweight champion. The Quebec native has not lost since suffering a 2007 defeat to Matt Serra, a defeat which he avenged one year later to win back his undisputed title at UFC 83.

Since that time, St. Pierre, 30, has successfully defended his belt against Penn, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and, most recently, Jake Shields at UFC 129 on April 30.
