Gabriel Gonzaga Replaces Injured Shane del Rosario, Faces Dave Herman at UFC 162

An undisclosed injury has forced Shane del Rosario out of his proposed UFC 162 matchup with Dave Herman, promotion officials announced on Friday night.

Gabriel Gonzaga will replace del Rosario at the July 6 event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. UFC 162 is headlined by a middleweight title tilt pitting Anderson Silva against Chris Weidman. Gonzaga-Herman is slated to air on FX as part of the preliminary portion of the card.

A former heavyweight title challenger, Gonzaga began 2013 with a second-round submission of Ben Rothwell at UFC on FX 7. “Napao” came up short in his next outing, however, suffering a first-round knockout to Travis Browne at “The Ultimate Fighter 17” finale.

Herman, meanwhile, will look to halt a three-fight skid against Gonzaga. The Team Quest member debuted in the Octagon with a victory over John Olav Einemo at UFC 131, but has since lost to Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his last three bouts.
