The main event of UFC Fight Night 99 “Kim vs. Nelson” in Belfast, Ireland, was dealt a heavy blow as Gunnar Nelson suffered and injury and has thus been booted from the card. The new main event will be a rematch between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall.
MMAFighting.com was the first to report on the situation, though the extent of the Icelander’s injury is unknown. Nelson was slated to take on Dong Hyun Kim and it’s unclear whether the South Korean will remain on the card to face a different opponent.
Mousasi is fresh off a thrilling win over Vitor Belfort at UFC 204 earlier this month. The Dutchman tore into “The Phenom” and stopped him in the second and immediately following his conquest of the former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champ, Mousasi called for a shot at the middleweight title.
Hall is the last man to topple Mousasi, who has won three consecutive bouts since. A year ago at UFC Fight Night 75, “Prime Time” greased Mousasi with a sensational flying knee and follow-up punches knocking out just 25 ticks into the second. Interestingly, the triumph over Mousasi was the last time Hall tasted victory; he’s dropped his last two bouts.
UFC Fight Night 99 (current odds) will go down on Nov. 19 and will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
