Georges St. Pierre, Carlos Condit Given Green Light for UFC 154 Welterweight Unification Bout
UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has finally reached the end of rehabilitation’s long and uncertain road, nearly two years after he last set foot inside the Octagon.
St. Pierre checked in at 170 pounds for his five-round unification bout with interim titleholder Carlos Condit (169) in the UFC 154 main event on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The eight other men ticketed for duty on the main card, including welterweight co-headliners Johny Hendricks (171) and Martin Kampmann (171), also met their contracted weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.

Condit last fought at UFC 143 in February, when he outpointed Nick Diaz en route to a unanimous decision for the interim welterweight title. The 28-year-old Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts representative has accumulated 26 finishes among his 28 career victories -- 13 by submission and 13 more by knockout or technical knockout. Notoriously fit and durable, Condit has never been knocked out in 33 professional appearances. The former World Extreme Cagefighting champion holds a 5-1 record in the UFC.
UFC 154 “St. Pierre vs. Condit” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a featherweight duel pitting former title contender Mark Hominick (145) against Pablo Garza (145) and a pair of middleweight tilts, as Francis Carmont (185) locks horns with Tom Lawlor (184) and Nick Ring (184) toes the line against Constantinos Philippou (185).
Two hours prior, the FX network will carry four preliminary matchups: Patrick Cote (185) vs. Alessio Sakara (186), Cyrille Diabate (206) vs. Chad Griggs (205), Mark Bocek (156) vs. Rafael dos Anjos (155) and Sam Stout (154) vs. John Makdessi (155). The remaining four undercard bouts will stream live to the UFC’s Facebook page, as Antonio Carvalho (145) faces Rodrigo Damm (145), Matt Riddle (170) tackles John Maguire (171), Ivan Menjivar (135) battles Azamat Gashimov (135) and Steven Siler (145) meets Darren Elkins (145).
