Georgi Karakhanyan-Waylon Lowe Featherweight Tilt Completes WSOF 5 Main Draw

A featherweight showdown between UFC veteran Waylon Lowe and former Bellator talent Georgi Karakhanyan has been added to the World Series of Fighting’s Sept. 14 offering.

WSOF officials Thursday announced the booking, which completes the WSOF 5 main draw. The event takes place at Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., and is headlined by a heavyweight showdown pitting ex-UFC king Andrei Arlovski against former Strikeforce talent Mike Kyle. The evening’s NBC Sports Network telecast will also see David Branch face Danillo Villefort and Elvis Mutapcic square off with Jesse Taylor in the semifinals of the WSOF middleweight title tournament.

Prior to the main card broadcast, the evening’s prelims will stream live and for free on Sherdog.com, featuring Gregor and Neiman Gracie locking up with Rich Patishnock and Darren Costa, respectively.

Karakhanyan makes his WSOF debut as the reigning Tachi Palace Fights featherweight champion, capturing the title in December 2011 and defending it successfully against Micah Miller nearly one year ago at TPF 14. The two-time Bellator tournament veteran has won seven straight fights, most recently outpointing UFC alum Din Thomas this past April in the Texas-based Legacy Fighting Championship.

Lowe, meanwhile, has won four consecutive contests since his UFC departure in March 2011. The stocky 32-year-old made his WSOF foray this past March at the organization’s second event, scoring a first-round knockout over “Ultimate Fighter” alum Cameron Dollar. Lowe owns half of his 14 career wins by way of knockout and has gone the distance just four times in 18 pro outings.
