On Friday, Glory returns to Southern California for its first event of 2017. Headlining Glory 37: Los Angeles will be middleweight champion Jason Wilnis defending his title against Israel Adesanya. At Thursday’s weigh-ins, both combatants cleared the final hurdle before tearing into one another.
Adesanya was the first of the two main event foes to tip the scale and he came in right on the money at 185.6 pounds. Wilnis, who won the title by upsetting Simon Marcus at Glory 33, was equally on point as his challenger; he checked in officially at 185.6.
Helping to bolster the Glory 37 main card is a four-man one-night welterweight tournament. The first match will see Yoann Kongolo (169.8) taking on Konstantin Khuzin (167.4), with the winner facing whoever comes out on top between Karim Benmansour (166.4) and Alan Scheinson (169.2).
Anchoring the Glory 37 SuperFight Series undercard will be reigning featherweight champion Robin Van Roosmalen defending his crown against Matt Embree. Or at least that was the initial plan. Embree weighed in at 142 pounds, right on the money, and will have a chance to win the title if he wins. Unfortunately for van Roosmalen, he came in heavy at 143.8 pounds, past the featherweight limit, and was stripped of his title on the scale. If van Roosmalen is victorious, the title will become vacant.
Glory 37 will be streamed live from The Novo on ESPN3 beginning at 1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT directly following the SuperFight Series undercard, which will air on UFC Fight Pass at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.
