Former Pride Fighting Championships lightweight titleholder Takanori Gomi has signed a contract with the UFC, the terms of which were not disclosed. UFC President Dana White confirmed the acquisition during his New Year’s Day video blog in advance of UFC 108 “Evans vs. Silva” on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Once considered the world’s top lightweight, Gomi has enjoyed a pair of double-digit winning streaks during his storied career. The 31-year-old Japanese standout last competed in October when he outpointed King of the Cage champion Tony Hervey in a five-round tilt at Vale Tudo Japan 2009.
Gomi holds notable victories against Tatsuya Kawajiri, former UFC lightweight king Jens Pulver, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai and Mitsuhiro Ishida. In 37 career appearances, he has never been knocked out, while more than half of his 31 wins have come by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
“We signed him, and he’s here,” White said. “Get ready. Gomi’s back.”
