JAKARTA, Indonesia -- One Fighting Championship unveiled details about their Feb. 11 show in Kelapa Gading Sports Mall during a press conference Thursday at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta.
Subtitled “Battle of Heroes,” the event is the first of 14 scheduled fight cards in 2012 for the young, Singapore-based promotion. Victor Cui, owner and CEO of One FC, is confident that his company can find success in the Indonesian capital despite the fact that professional MMA has been absent from the city since 2008.
“Jakarta was a no-brainer,” Cui said Thursday of his choice to bring One FC’s sophomore show to the city. “I have real strong personal connections to Indonesia and I know the community is really supportive of martial arts.”
Cui confirmed to Sherdog.com that amongst the participants on the 10-bout card will be URCC bantamweight champion Kevin Belingon, Danish muay Thai stylist Ole Laursen, WBA boxing titlist Yodsanan Sityodtong, Strikeforce veteran Igor Gracie and Deep welterweight champ Yuya Shirai. Additionally, the winner of Friday’s Cage Fighting Championships 135-pound title fight in Sydney between Gustavo Falciroli and Nick Honstein will be awarded a spot on the card.
One of three Indonesians slated for action on Feb. 11 is freshly minted Southeast Asian Games sanshou silver medalist Youne Victorio Senduk. Two others, who will fight each other on the February card, will be determined Dec. 22 at a “national qualifier” held by the Federasi Olahraga Beladiri Indonesia (FOBI), Indonesia’s martial arts sanctioning body.
