Gray Maynard-Alexander Yakovlev Lightweight Bout Set for UFC Fight Night in Virginia

Two fighters looking to halt losing skids will collide when Gray Maynard welcomes Alexander Yakovlev to the lightweight division at UFC Fight Night “Mendes vs. Lamas.”

UFC officials Monday announced the matchup, which will take place April 4 at Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. The Fox Sports 1-broadcast card will be headlined by a featherweight bout between former title challengers Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas.

Maynard, 35, has lost three in a row and has suffered knockouts in four of his last five outings stretching back to 2011, a streak which drew some concern from UFC President Dana White last year. “The Bully” last entered the cage in August, when he was punched out in the second round by Ross Pearson.

Yakovlev, 30, will make his 155-pound debut after competing for more than 10 years as a welterweight. The Russian import has faltered in his first two Octagon appearances, dropping unanimous decisions to Demian Maia and Nicholas Musoke in 2014.
