Heavyweights Mark Hunt, Roy Nelson to Headline UFC Fight Night in Japan on Sept. 21

A heavyweight showdown between Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson will headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s return to Japan on Sept. 21.

UFC President Dana White announced the matchup via Twitter on Friday afternoon. The card will take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Japan and will air via UFC Fight Pass. MMAFighting.com first reported the matchup on Thursday.

Hunt has not competed since his memorable clash with Antonio Silva in Australia this past December. While the initial result of their five-round slugfest was a draw, a failed drug test by Silva resulted in the bout being declared a no contest on “Bigfoot’s” record. The bout remains a draw on Hunt’s ledger, however. “The Super Samoan” owns victories over Stefan Struve, Cheick Kongo, Ben Rothwell and Chris Tuchscherer in UFC competition.

Nelson recently halted a two-fight skid with a first-round knockout of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on April 11 in Abu Dhabi. The “TUF 10” winner also owns notable triumphs over Brendan Schaub, Struve, Kongo, Mirko Filipovic and Matt Mitrione -- all via KO or TKO -- during his Octagon tenure.
