Heavyweights Shawn Jordan, Gabriel Gonzaga Greenlit for UFC 166 in Houston

Heavyweights Shawn Jordan and Gabriel Gonzaga will clash when the UFC returns to Houston.

Promotion officials recently confirmed the UFC 166 booking following an initial report from TheAdvocate.com. The Oct. 19 event is headlined by a heavyweight title rubber match between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos and will additionally feature Hector Lombard’s welterweight debut against Nate Marquardt. The evening’s main draw airs live on pay-per-view, while Fox Sports 1 and Facebook will carry the prelims.

Formerly a fullback at Louisiana State University, Jordan has won four of his last five fights. The 28-year-old made his UFC debut last year and has posted a 3-1 Octagon record, dropping a decision to Cheick Kongo between victories over Oli Thompson and Mike Russow. Most recently, “The Savage” picked up the 11th knockout victory of his career by stopping Pat Barry in 59 seconds this past June at UFC 161.

Like his opponent, Gonzaga has also won four of his last five. Now in his second run with the Zuffa-owned promotion, the former heavyweight title challenger posted submission wins over Ednaldo Oliveira and Ben Rothwell to kick off his UFC return before suffering an April 13 knockout at the hands of Travis Browne. “Napao” rebounded from the defeat, however, stopping Dave Herman in just 17 seconds earlier this month at UFC 162.
