Heavyweights Wagner, Rosa Square Off at Titan FC 17

Less than a month after his shocking upset of former UFC champion Tim Sylvia, Nebraska-based heavyweight Abe Wagner has lined up his return to the cage.

Wagner will meet Strikeforce and Bellator veteran Aaron Rosa on March 25 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., as part of the HDNet-televised Titan Fighting Championship 17. The promotion officially announced the match on Tuesday morning.

“Both Abe and Aaron like to stand in the pocket and trade,” Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly stated in a release. “Fans attending the fight at Memorial Hall and viewers watching at home on HDNet will have a lot to look forward to when it comes to Titan Fighting Championship 17. However, Wagner vs. Rosa is the matchup to watch because it has all the hallmarks of an epic slugfest.”

A contestant on the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Wagner was a considerable underdog heading into his main event matchup with the streaking Sylvia at TFC 16 on Jan. 28. The 30-year-old Omahan swarmed the “Maine-iac” in the opening minute, landing a series of hard punches and scoring a technical knockout just 32 seconds into the fight. The “Hurricane” holds a professional ledger of 8-3, including six wins by way of stoppage.

Rosa, 27, has competed for several major organizations since 2007, primarily at light heavyweight. The Texas native won three straight bouts in his home state in 2010, capping the year with a unanimous decision win over Devin Cole at Shark Fights 13 in September. Rosa has lost just one of his last six bouts, a second-round TKO at the hands of current Strikeforce 205-pound champ Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante.

TFC 17 will also feature the promotional debuts of pro-wrestling star Bobby Lashley and well-traveled veteran Phil Baroni, who take on James Jack and Nick Nolte, respectively.
