A lightweight showdown between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and ex-Strikeforce ruler Josh Thomson will headline UFC on Fox 10 at United Center in Chicago.
UFC President Dana White announced the Jan. 25 booking Saturday night at the UFC 167 post-fight press conference.
In addition, White revealed that Luke Rockhold will face Costas Philippou in the main event of UFC Fight Night 35, which takes place Jan. 15 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, Ga. White also confirmed that UFC 171 will go down March 15 at American Airlines Arena in Dallas.
Henderson last competed in August, when he dropped the lightweight strap to Anthony Pettis in the main event of UFC 164. Thomson was then supposed to serve as Pettis’ first title challenger next month at UFC on Fox 9, but Pettis withdrew from the bout due to injury.
Rockhold will enter the cage for the first time since Vitor Belfort snapped his nine-fight winning streak with a devastating, spinning heel kick this past May. Like the former Strikeforce champion, Philippou also saw a winning streak derailed in his last outing, as the Cyprus expat fell via unanimous decision to Francis Carmont at UFC 165.
