Herb Dean will referee the UFC 169 bantamweight title headliner pitting Renan Barao against Urijah Faber.
The New Jersey Athletic State Control Board recently announced referee and judge assignments for the Feb. 1 event, which takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Super Bowl weekend. Keith Peterson will oversee the evening’s co-main event, a 145-pound title tilt between Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas. Judges Ricardo Almeida, Eric Colon and Cardo Urso will be cageside for both title bouts.
Dean has refereed 517 bouts in the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, Affliction and Elite XC, according to FightMetric.com . Most recently, he was in the Octagon for Chris Weidman’s second-round TKO triumph over Anderson Silva at UFC 168. Peterson, meanwhile, has refereed 30 bouts in Strikeforce and the UFC since 2011, including the UFC 159 light heavyweight title clash between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
