Herman-Russow Slated for UFC 136 on Oct. 8 in Houston

Dave Herman will collide with Pride Fighting Championships veteran Mike Russow in a heavyweight tilt at UFC 136 on Oct. 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston. UFC officials on Friday announced the matchup.

Herman (21-2, 1-0 UFC) made his promotional debut at UFC 131 in June, when he stopped 2003 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist John Olav Einemo on second-round punches at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; the performance earned him a $70,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus. A potent finisher, Herman (Pictured; file photo) has secured 20 of his 21 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, a staggering 18 of them in the first round. The 26-year-old Fort Wayne, Ind., native cut his teeth inside the EliteXC, Sengoku Raiden Championship and Bellator Fighting Championships promotions. On a three-fight winning streak, Herman now trains out of Team Quest in Temecula, Calif.

Russow (14-1, 1 NC, 3-0 UFC) will carry a 10-fight winning streak into the bout. The 34-year-old Chicagoan last appeared at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he stopped previously unbeaten “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Jon Madsen on a second-round TKO a the Key Arena in Seattle. Russow, who wrestled collegiately at Eastern Illinois University, has delivered more than half (eight) of his 14 career wins by submission. He suffered his only professional defeat in February 2007, when he succumbed to a first-round armbar from Sergei Kharitonov at Pride 33.

The Herman-Russow matchup joins two other announced bouts at UFC 136: Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann and Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice.
