Horwich-Rosholt Rematch Headlines Shark Fights 17 on July 15

Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt will tangle for the second time on July 15 when the former UFC middleweights face off in the main event of Shark Fights 17.

Rosholt’s management company, Team Takedown, confirmed news of the bout Monday on Twitter. Officials for the Texas-based promotion also revealed that July the card will air live on cable channel HDNet from Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

Horwich (Pictured) and Rosholt first met at a November Xtreme Fight Night event in Tulsa, Okla., where submission ace Horwich surprised many by stopping the three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champ with third-round strikes from back-mount.

Since then, 32-year-old Horwich has competed only once, dropping a three-round unanimous decision to Danillo Villefort in the main event of Shark Fights 14 on March 11. The onetime International Fight League middleweight champ is 2-2 in his last four starts, alternating stoppage wins over Rosholt and Thales Leites with decision losses to Villefort and Eric Schambari.

Rosholt, 28, embarked on a tear after his loss to Horwich, rattling off four first-round wins inside of four months. The busy stretch included a March 19 rear-naked-choking of John Bryant under the Bellator banner and a May 21 arm-triangle submission of John Malbrough in Rosholt’s adopted hometown of Ponca City, Okla.

The former Oklahoma State University Cowboy saw his streak snapped on May 27, however, when an illegal third-round knee strike cost Rosholt an all-but-guaranteed decision win against John Ott at Titan Fighting Championship 18. Rosholt is currently in talks with the Kansas Athletic Commission regarding a possible appeal.
