Ian McCall, Demetrious Johnson Clear Weigh-In Hurdle for UFC on FX 3 Rematch

Three months ago, Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson fought to a standstill in the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight tournament semifinals. They now return to finish what they started.

McCall tipped the scales at 126 pounds for his rematch with Johnson (125) in the UFC on FX 3 main event on Friday at the BankAtlantic Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The six other combatants booked for duty on the main card, including welterweight co-headliners Erick Silva (169) and Charlie Brenneman (171), also met their contracted weight requirements without incident at Thursday’s official weigh-in.

A Team Oyama representative, McCall has never lost at 125 pounds. The former Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion has secured more than half (seven) of his 11 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. McCall will enter the cage on a five-fight unbeaten streak. The 27-year-old Californian last tasted defeat in a January 2009 decision to current UFC bantamweight titleholder Dominick Cruz.

Johnson has compiled a stellar resume, with wins over former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, 2005 K-1 Hero’s lightweight grand prix winner Norfiumi Yamamoto, Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts standout Damacio Page and onetime Ring of Combat titleholder Nick Pace. Six of the 27-year-old Matt Hume protégé’s last seven fights have gone the distance, including his five-round unanimous decision loss to Cruz in October. In 17 professional appearances, Johnson has never been finished.

The McCall-Johnson winner will face Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez for the vacant UFC flyweight championship. Benavidez stopped Yasuhiro Urushitani on second-round punches in the semifinals.

UFC on FX 3 “McCall vs. Johnson 2” -- which airs at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on the FX network -- will also feature a welterweight showdown pitting Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts veteran Mike Pyle (171) against Josh Neer (170.5) and a bantamweight duel pairing Scott Jorgensen (136) with former WEC champion Eddie Wineland (135.5).

Three hours prior, Fuel TV will carry six undercard bouts: Mike Pierce (171) vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha (170.5), Seth Baczynski (170.5) vs. Lance Benoist (171), Leonard Garcia (146) vs. Matt Grice (146), Dustin Pague (136) vs. Jared Papazian (133), Tim Means (155.5) vs. Justin Salas (156) and Buddy Roberts (185) vs. Caio Magalhaes (186). The two remaining preliminary matchups will stream live to the UFC’s Facebook page, as Henry Martinez (156) locks horns with Bernardo Magalhaes (155) and Sean Pierson (170) collides with Jake Hecht (171).
