Injury Update: Dominick Cruz Tears ACL in Right Knee, Raphael Assuncao Breaks Ankle

Dominick Cruz is on the shelf once again.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight champion has suffered the third torn anterior cruciate ligament of his career.

“It is with great sadness to report I have experienced another ACL injury,” stated a post on Cruz’s official Facebook page. “This time it’s in the right knee, opposite side of my first and second ACL injuries.”

A timetable for his return in unknown at this time.

Also in bantamweight contender injury news, Raphael Assuncao took to Twitter to announce that he had broken his ankle and will be sidelined indefinitely.

With both Cruz and Assuncao out with injury for the foreseeable future, former 135-pound kingpin Renan Barao may be the next man up to vie for T.J. Dillashaw’s bantamweight title.
