The main event of Invicta FC 13 was made official Wednesday when both Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Faith Van Duin cleared the featherweight limit of 145 pounds.
Justino, arguably the most feared fighter in all of women’s MMA, tipped the scales at 144.6 pounds. Van Duin seemed unintimidated by her Brazilian adversary as she weighed in at 144.9 pounds, and then promptly faced off with the defending Invicta champion during the customary staredown.
Co-headline fighters Tonya Evinger and Irene Aldana were equally on target for their bantamweight showdown. Evinger, a veteran of EliteXC who has faced many of the top women in the sport, strolled to the stage and easily made weight at 134.7 pounds. Her quest for a seventh consecutive victory will continue tomorrow night when she squares off against Aldana, who weighed in at an identical 134.7 pounds, allowing both women to fight for the vacant Invicta bantamweight strap.
Defending Invicta atomweight titlist Herica Tiburcio will defend her crown against Ayaka Hamasaki as both fighters made the 105-pound limit. After the Japanese combatant nailed it at 104.7, Tiburcio cleared the weight at 104.8 pounds.
Invicta FC 13 will be held inside the Chelsea Ballroom in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and will start at 8 p.m. The event will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
